For kayak is best to dress in a comfortable sports clothes made of synthetic materials, which drain water and dry quickly. Depending on the route you take, your clothing should be carefully chosen. If on the route you will be exposed to the sun for a long time it is necessary to have a headgear and use sunscreen. If you are going on a route with a large number of obstacles (fallen trees) it is worth taking clothes for a change in case of falling into the water, as well as an appropriate amount of provisions and water to drink. Regardless of the route, it is worth to have some additional equipment, which will protect us e.g. from rain. More information about what to take with you on a kayak you will find in the questions above.

There are, however, places especially on the bends of the river where the so called deep pools are formed and there may be even up to 3 meters deep.

Yes, there are hot water showers with a coin slot machine.

Proper paddling technique consists primarily of the proper position of the paddler (back straight, leaning slightly forward, legs resting on the footrests) and paddling alternately keeping to the principle that the lower hand pulls the paddle rod, and the upper pushes from each other so that we paddle using also the muscles of the back.
For details it is best to ask our staff during the kayak briefing.

17. How do you stop a kayak?

You should paddle in the opposite direction to the direction of the flow on both sides alternately remembering that the current which we have behind us may also affect our direction of flow. We paddle from each other towards the bow of the kayak! Grabbing branches hanging over our head in order to stop the kayak is not a good idea, because it can end up with falling out of the kayak or even with capsizing.

18. How do you turn a kayak?

There are several methods. In a two-person kayak we paddle from one side (forward, i.e. we push with an oar the water towards the kayak's stern) and from the other side analogically in the opposite direction (backward, i.e. we push the water with an oar towards the bow or hold a feather in the water on the current on stiffened hands). We can also use so called steering contours etc. It will be best to ask our staff about the details during the kayak briefing.

19. Is the Rega river deep?

Depending on the route. The upper routes from Swidwin toerzyno are not very deep except for some so called "deep spots" (e.g. on turns, behind obstacles, etc.) Belowerzyno the Rega River is getting deeper and in some places closer to the mouth of the Baltic Sea it can be even a few meters deep.

20. Can you fall over from a kayak?

If we obey safety rules it is not. However, if during the rafting we stand in the kayak or while coming to the obstacle we set the kayak with its side to the obstacle and we lean strongly in the direction of e.g. strong current such a capsize is possible. Detailed information on safety paddling techniques will bring our staff during the briefing.

24. Where to go kayaking in Szczecin?

In Szczecin itself we have a lot of options for kayaking. We can go to the wilder channels of Międzyodrze or even visit Szczecin from the water side starting from Szczecin Venice at Kolumba street going in the direction of Wały Chrobrego to the Szczecin Shipyard. Moreover, we have a lot of canals connecting West Odra with Regalica like Parnica Canal, Duńczyca, Święta and many others which interweave wilderness and industrial infrastructure.

For kayaking trips along the Oder River we recommend traditional two-person kayaks, such as Visty. For longer expeditions along rivers or canals of Szczecin waters, and especially on Lake Dabie, we recommend our sea kayaks with a protective apron. This will allow us to safely travel very long distances.

Moreover, in close proximity to Szczecin, there are such rivers as:

Płonia - an excellent river for people living near Szczecin who want to feel the closeness of wild nature just a few minutes away from the city. The most popular route is from Jezierzyce to Płonia camping site in Szczecin Dąbie. At the finish line of the rafting trip there are wats and places designated for bonfires.

Ina is very pleasant and calm river which delights kayakers especially on the route Sowno - Łęsko and Łęsko - Goleniów. Ideal river for one or two days rafting. This place is managed by municipal forest in Szczecin.

25. Do we have safety vests for children?

We have special children's safety and life jackets according to the size of the child. Moreover, our kayaks Perception Vista have special children's extensions (seats) thanks to which 2 adults and a child can paddle in one kayak.

26. Do we have three-person kayaks?

We have special extensions (children's seats designed by Perception and Kayakzone) which allow you to carry three people in one kayak (2 adults + 1 child, sometimes even 2 adults + 2 small children). These extras can be mounted either at the back or at the front seat of the kayak depending on individual preferences. Long, three-person kayaks, which appear on our market are not entirely suitable for the bodies of water on which we organize canoeing rallies because of poor steering and too large dimensions preventing comfort of paddling on winding routes on the river.

27. What to do if a canoe capsizes on a river/lake?

First of all you should not let such situation happen. However, if it already happens you should get out of the kayak (which we often do automatically) and holding on to the kayak swim with it to the nearest shore. If it is shallow, you can pour water in the place of capsize, and then get into it providing yourself additional support of the other kayak, shore, or obstacle. On the lake it is quite difficult to capsize the kayak if you sit in it, but if it has already happened kayak capsized has an airbag inside, so that the kayak floats on the water surface and you can swim with it to the nearest shore (preferably with the wind). In assistance of other kayaks you can even pour water from the overturned kayak resting it on the cockpit of the kayak supporting the rescue operation. The detailed technique of how to do it will be best explained by our staff during the briefing or you can sign up with us and take a special kayak course and experience it in practice.

28. Do I have to know how to swim to rent a kayak?

The ability to swim in the water certainly increases our safety in a kayak. It should also be remembered that the life jackets and safety vests which we rent along with the kayak are certified and ensure that a person who cannot swim will stay afloat.

29. Will I be able to stop for a break during the one day kayaking trip?

Of course, on the rafting route such a break is possible. You just have to choose such place, which will allow you to safely leave your kayak and take it up again. On most canoeing routes in our region there are plenty of such places where we can make a break or even a longer camping with a bonfire. About exact locations of camping and focal points for example on the Reda river ask our staff.

30. Am I in danger of falling out of my kayak?

Kayaks which are in our company are very safe and stable. Keeping the basic safety rules nothing like that should happen to you.

31. Will I get a vest/cap on the kayaking trip?

Each person renting a kayak from us receives a safety vest according to their size. We also have special life jackets for children, which have special buoyancy collars to support the child's head above the water surface. Vest designs can be found on our website.

32. Is it possible to swim in a kayak without a vest (called kapok)?

Kayaking without a vest (life jacket) does not increase our safety in case of capsize. On the contrary, even if we can swim in the water being warmed by the warm sun we can get a thermal shock during capsize and drown. It is important, no matter what skills we have, to always swim in such a vest. What if it rains during the rafting trip?

33. From what age does a child in a kayak?

The age at which we take our children on a canoeing trip depends mainly on parents' skills and experience, as well as the character of the river and the route we want to go on. Parents come to us with children a few months old and they paddle together in a kayak mainly on the routes of calm rivers such as Resko-Żerzyno. Nevertheless, the majority of parents take their children on rafting trips from the age of about 5.

34. Is it okay to drink alcohol in a kayak?

Alcohol and drugs are prohibited during the canoeing trip.

35. Can you take your dog on a kayak?

As much as possible. More and more people decide to come on a canoeing trip with their pet. It should be remembered, however, that not every pet will feel comfortable in such a kayak. Sometimes a dog will want to jump out of the kayak after a duck or a swan, which we will meet on the route, or it may want to jump after the kayak, which is flowing in front of us. Decision whether the beloved pet is suitable for such canoeing or not must be verified by the owner himself. Those who are not sure are welcome to our kayaking base, where you can borrow a kayak for a while and try to swim a few hundred meters to verify.
